I have a printer that needs a newer cups. I updated it on my laptop, but I don't remember how I did it.

On this computer so far, I have removed the default cups with apt-get remove cups, downloaded the source code, built it without errors and did a make install.

It seems to be semi-installed, but not being detected by the operating system.

If I navigate to http://localhost:631/, I get a "problem loading page message".

If I got to "printers" on the system menu, it says it is not connected to cups.

The process appears to be running though:

ps fax | grep cups --color
1521 ? Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/cups-browsed

and

#service cups status
cups start/running
# service cups start
start: Job is already running: cups

I'm probably missing a link or some configuration file needs changed, but I don't know what I need to do to make the OS see the new cups. This is Mint 16 with Cups 2.2.6 stable as the version I just build and (partially) installed.

What am I missing?
