How to clone a whole partition from usb while booting
Clash Royale CLAN TAG#URR8PPP
im searching a way to clone a whole partition from a usb stick to a pc.
I could use a live operation system e.g. ubuntu and use dd to copy it, but im searching for a way that laity can also do that.
Example:
A laity plug in the usb-stick, the usb-stick automaticly clone the partition from the usb-stick to the hdd from the pc.
Is there maybe already a way for that ?
linux boot partition clone

It seems risky to do that automatically. At least there should be a dialogue where the user can check carefully before deciding to run the cloning operation. Otherwise there is a big risk that valuable data will be overwritten. - What is the content of the partition? How should the target drive be prepared in order to get things right? - Do you actually intend to clone the whole drive, not only a partition?

I have 2 partitions, one for the os (always 20GB) and the other partition for variable data e.g. images etc. I want to copy the os partition so the customer can update the system.

So the customer has a similar partition table, and the cloning should be safe? In that case you could have a persistent live system and autostart a shellscript, that runs the commands necessary for the correct cloning of the image to the target.

How i can start the shellscript on the usb-stick ? I want that the customer plugin the usb-stick, boot from there and automaticly copy the os partition from the usb-stick to the pc.

Maybe the following link can help you. It is not exactly what you want, but you can probably use the same method. A: How can I make a bootable, unattended USB restore disk?
