Say I have a 3 GiB directory having files such as PDFs and .html files. (Not media files of course, for sake of simplicity).

Suppose I have generic compression utilities such as gzip/xzip/bzip2, cpio, lzma etcetera, how do I use these tools to achieve maximum compression ratio on multi-level directory hierarchy consisting of such files?
