after trying out to get my internal notebook mic running for days i decided to buy a headset.
I've put the headset into the USB slot, started Ubuntu and the Headset is not detected by the system.

lsusb shows:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 04e8:61f5 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 8087:0a2a Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 138a:0011 Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS5011 Fingerprint Reader
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 5986:0703 Acer, Inc
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0000:3821
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

The headset does also not appear in pavucontrol or in alsamixer.

also this article did not help me:

External headset mic not listed in Linux Mint 18.1 64-bit on Acer Aspire E 15

I am really getting frustrated now....what else can i try?

edit:

Maybe it can help to install another driver from another headset?

Please edit question and indicate brand and model of the headset. Does a new USB device show (a new line in lsusb) after you insert the headset? It's difficult to guess which device the headset could be without any further information... Also, please edit question with the lines in dmesg that appear after you insert the headset (look at the timestamp).

  • @dirkt i added the dmesg output and no, there is no difference in lsusb - neither if the headset is plugged in nor if not

  • The interesting part of dmesg are the new lines that appear after you plugged in the headset. Type dmesg, write down the timestamp (leftmost number) on the last line, plug in headset, type dmesg again, put all new lines (a few dozen at most) with a timestamp greater than the one you remembered in the question. If discord spams the log, first stop discord.

  • @dirkt Many many thanks for your help but it is the Headset itself. I've bought a new one and will try it out as soon as i will recieve it this afternoon. I am sure that that one will work. Otherwise I will reopen this topic - thanks a lot again! Have a nice day! (I will delete this post so far the new headset will work)

after trying out to get my internal notebook mic running for days i decided to buy a headset.

This is not the complete log, because discord added thousands of entries here and they seemed to look all the same (like the last one i posted here)

This is not the complete log, because discord added thousands of entries here and they seemed to look all the same (like the last one i posted here)

after trying out to get my internal notebook mic running for days i decided to buy a headset.

This is not the complete log, because discord added thousands of entries here and they seemed to look all the same (like the last one i posted here)
